Arlene: Len and Craig need a buffer

Axed Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips reckons she knows exactly how to put a stop to the increasingly heated exchanges between judges Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood – plonk poor Bruno Tonioli between them.

Things became even more frosty between the embittered pair of judges at the weekend when they clashed over EastEnder Ricky Groves’ James Bond-themed rumba. When Aussie Craig blasted the dance as “conceited”, head judge Len gave him a tongue-lashing, accusing him of “destroying these people” while wagging a finger in his face.

“It’s almost like a personal vendetta,” chirped Queen of Mean Arlene yesterday. “Len and Craig work brilliantly together but they need the net in between them. I think the position of the judges is strange.

“I think the Len and Bruno thing worked, Len and Craig do work brilliantly together but need a cushion between them.” Any volunteers to be a net or a cushion? All eyes are on you, Bruno.

Craig wasn’t the only one who got a ticking-off from 65-year-old Len at the weekend. The head judge turned on the Great British Public’s failure to back Footballers’ Wives star Zöe Lucker, branding the actress’s elimination as “ludicrous and nonsensical”.
